Teta Diana is a Rwandan singer, songwriter, and cultural storyteller whose music bridges tradition and contemporary African expression. Singing in Kinyarwanda, Swahili, and English, she creates a deeply rooted yet globally resonant sound where folk melodies, jazz influences, Afro-soul, and East African rhythms meet with elegance and emotional depth.

Raised within Rwanda’s rich oral and musical traditions, Teta Diana began her professional journey performing traditional folk music with one of the country’s leading cultural ensembles. Immersed from an early stage in the transmission of heritage through music and storytelling, she developed a distinctive artistic voice that honors tradition while creating space for dialogue across cultures and generations.

Over the past decade, Teta Diana has built an international presence through performances across Africa, Europe, and the Americas, appearing in countries including Senegal, Kenya, Congo Brazzaville, Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden, the United States, and Mexico. Her work has been featured at renowned cultural gatherings and festivals such as Urkult festival, Malmö festival, KigaliUp, FESPAM, Têtes-à-Têtes Festival, Rwanda Day, among others.

In 2015, she received the prestigious CYRWA Award from the Imbuto Foundation under the patronage of Her Excellency Jeannette Kagame, recognising young Rwandans whose work contributes meaningfully to society through creativity, leadership, and cultural impact. The following year, she joined the Music Action Lab residency in San Francisco, collaborating with artists from around the world to create music centred on social change and human connection.

Teta Diana released her debut album Iwanyu in 2019, followed by the EP Umugwegwe in 2021, projects that established her as one of the most compelling voices of Rwanda’s contemporary music scene. Through poetic songwriting and an intimate stage presence, her music explores memory, identity, resilience, womanhood, and belonging.

She is also the founder of Sakwe Studios, a creative space dedicated to storytelling, artistic collaboration, and cultural exchange between communities and disciplines.

Now based between Rwanda and Sweden, Teta Diana continues to develop a musical language that transcends borders while remaining profoundly connected to her roots. Whether performing in intimate acoustic settings or on international festival stages, she invites audiences into a powerful and sincere experience where tradition becomes a living, evolving conversation.
